Update on the French import ban on cherries
The French government issued an import ban on fresh cherries on 25.3.2023. We reported on this in the previous issue of AGROLAB RADAR (April 2023). The decision has now been amended.
No further EU approval for Oxamyl
The approval of the active substance Oxamyl, which belongs to the carbamates and was used as an insecticide, will not be renewed. The EU Commission has announced the non-renewal of the authorisation of Oxamyl
Nitrosamines in food cause concerns
This is the conclusion reached by EFSA in its assessment of the risk to public health associated with the presence of nitrosamines in food. Ten nitrosamines found in food are carcinogenic and genotoxic.

EU Monitoring Programme for Pesticide Residues 2024-2026
The EU monitoring programme for pesticide residues in food is designed to ensure compliance with maximum levels and assess the risk of exposure for European consumers through a Community test plan that is updated annually. Commission Regulation 2023/731 of 3 April 2023 established the programme for the period 2024-2026.

Fruit and Vegetables: Approval for pesticide actives extended
The approval periods for abamectin and other active substances were extended and changes regarding their use were newly regulated in Commission implementing regulations (EU) 2023/515 of 8.3.23 (valid from 12.4.2023) and (EU) 2023/689 of 20.3.23 (valid from 18.4.23).
Change of Maximum Residue Level (MRL)

On 25 March 2023, the French government once again imposed an import ban on fresh cherries. This time, the trade restriction applies if the cherries come from countries where the active substance phosmet is still approved for treatment.
